Sharp knife-pleats fall in a riot of saturated colour: black, red, green, blue and yellow, arranged in bold, patchwork panels that give each movement a fractured geometry. The skirt’s surface is pure rayon, cut with precision so the colours align at every pleat, each stripe shifting as the fabric turns. A green plastic zipper closes at the side, set above a deep purple lining with a single interior zip pocket—unexpected utility for a silhouette that reads as pure theatre.
Inside, the skirt carries the 'GIVENCHY NOUVELLE BOUTIQUE' main label in serif capitals, paired with a Japanese care tag and a white-on-navy secondary label. No external logo interrupts the pattern; the colour-blocking and construction carry the story. Condition is very good, with only minor wear and no visible stains.
This piece dates to the late 1980s to early 1990s, the label and Japanese tag marking it as part of Givenchy’s diffusion lines from Hubert de Givenchy’s own era. The saturated palette and patchwork design—so different from the little black dress that made the house a legend—speak to a moment when Paris fashion was opening to new colour and form. The mannequin normally wears a size M.
