Issey Miyake opened his Tokyo studio in 1970 and launched Pleats Please in 1993 — a collection that reinvented ready-to-wear by pleating finished garments in heat-set polyester, yielding pieces that travel well, keep their shape and read as both architectural and entirely weightless.
