The 4G logo came before the 4G bag.

01 · A logo before a model
Givenchy had four Gs long before it had a “4G”.
The interlocking four-G device is recorded in commercial use by 1960 and trademarked in 1979. The handbag officially named 4G did not exist until Matthew M. Williams launched it on 30 April 2021.
So an old black bag with four Gs on the flap is not a vintage 4G Bag. It is something older and less documented — a Givenchy logo bag from the licensing years.

04 · The label does the work
Givenchy Sacs. Made in Japan. No year.
Inside ours: a woven label reading GIVENCHY SACS / MADE IN JAPAN, sewn under the zip pocket. Givenchy licensing in Japan is documented from 1972 — starting with scarves at Moonbat.
There is no date code and no reference number. Sellers write “1980s”; auction houses write “late 20th century”. We print what we can prove and stop there.
