01 · The name
Chanel Sport got its name in 2002.
Karl Lagerfeld had already sent Chanel skiing for winter 2000/01. But the first Chanel-made lookbook actually titled CHANEL SPORT sits in the Cornell archive: Spring–Summer 2002, followed by Fall–Winter 2002/03.
That spring the runway ended with surfboards. A CC on a breaking wave. Terry, nylon, mesh and webbing instead of lambskin and chain.
It was not casual Chanel. It was Chanel translated through sports equipment — and for a few years, a laboratory for what the house could be made of.

Our Chanel says 2005–06. And Italy.
Sticker inside: 10552925. Eight digits, 10-series — the specialist tables place it in 2005–06. Not 2005. A range, not a year.
The plaque next to it reads CHANEL / MADE IN ITALY. Sport pieces came from both France and Italy; this one is Italian.
What the straps tell you: CHANEL and the square CC are woven into the webbing, not printed on. Grey technical body, black open mesh at the sides, beige panels, rectangular sliders. The branding is inside the construction, not on a clasp.
